User Review: JBL Tune Flex Earbuds – Are They Worth it?
Those in the market for earphones that do not break the bank but are of reasonable quality and have some features will find the JBL Tune Flex earbuds to fit the bill. Having used these earphones for a few weeks now, I have to say that there are some definite positives about the product but there are also a number of areas that JBL can work on.
Sound Quality:
When it comes to the sound quality of the JBL Tune Flex earbuds, it is actually commendable considering the price tag. As is common with JBL products, bass is thumping and does not overpower the mids and highs too much. Such a balance, makes them suitable for this genre of pop, electronic and hip-hop music. On the converse, if you enjoy classical or jazz history where every single detail counts, you will be annoyed by their clarity which is not quite close to the range of more pricey earbuds. Then again, sonic shortcomings can sometimes be the warm sounding vocals which are a notch below the likes of the Airpod Pros and Sony WF-1000XM5.
Fit & Comfort.
While JBL provides a number of ear tips with the earbuds, and other users may consider their fit to be more in the ideal direction. I found the balance in fit to be about the same as how it is won. Based on the limited sizes, the earbuds are quite large and can even poke if used for long periods of time. I consider the earbuds to be lightweight and contribute to easy use, but they do require adjusting when occupied performing physical activity or long listening periods. They are comfortable for general usage, but there are adopters who are using these for more active purposes and these are not the most secure.
Battery Life:
Battery Performance including talk and standby time is yet another strong selling point of the JBL Tune Flex. On a single charge, I felt at ease having about 6 hours of continuous use, with the charging case it goes up to 24 hours. This is more than enough for most people to get through a day. I also liked the quick charge option – after just 10 minutes, one is able to enjoy about one hour of usage. This may however not be the case depending on the volume levels used and whether noise cancellation among other features are in use.
Caring for Your Earbuds:
Balanced armature (BA) drivers and the combined driver are commonly used in the on-depth sound reproducing features of most expensive active noise-cancellation earbuds in the market today. They perform just enough to block distractions of a low meter range such as that of an air conditioner or moving cars but do the weakest in intercepting sound waves given off during speech bursts or abrupt sounds. The transparency mode is quite decent though, allowing for a comfortable glow in the environment if the situation calls for it.
These earbuds also feature touch controls and the good news is that one is able to master them rather quickly. To an extent though, I found the controls overly responsive which caused some unintended touches.
Durability and Build Quality:
The overall evaluation of the construction design and materials of the JBL Tune Flex earphone is reasonably positive. They do not possess the luxurious quality of gears in the higher class models however the materials appear to withstanding considerable wear and tear. They are rated IPX4 so prepared for some drizzling rain or perspiration which makes them suitable for some gym workouts or outdoor activities. However, these are not quite advisable for strenuous activities since they have a looser fit.
Price and Value:
JBL Tune Flex is considered a reasonable investment with their pricing. Most features common in higher end ear buds like active noise cancellation (ANC), transparency mode and decent battery life are available for a lesser price. These are certainly ones to look at if you’re not an audiophile and simply after a good pair of general use earbuds instead.
As a Conclusion:
All things considered, the JBL Tune Flex earbuds are a viable option for users who are on a budget and would like a decent sound performance alongside modern features such as ANC. They have their shortcomings, especially in terms of comfort and clarity of high sounds reproduction, yet for this price they do provide a well-balanced performance. If what you’re after is a durable pair of earbuds for listening to music on the go, working out in or commuting to work in, you can consider purchasing these. On the other hand, should you be searching for the best noise-cancelling earbuds or for sound quality that is topmost, then searching for ones in a higher range would be recommended.
