User Review: THE NORTH FACE Arctic Insulated Parka – "Warmest Winter Coat Ever"
I have been using The North Face Arctic Insulated Parka for a couple of months now and I must say it is one of the warmest winter coats I have ever had. Growing up in a place where winter can be depending derogatory, I can say that I have always looked for a coat that combines classy design with warm functionality – and this parka does not disappoint.
Warmth & Insulation
The parka is made with 700-fill down insulation which is great for cold weather. Even when it’s the coldest of cold, and I mean below freezing, if that even exists, I am still warm and tingly inside. Down goose insulations works great for trapping the heat and its because of the length of the coat – mid thigh which cuts off the windchill so well. The waterproof outside also does the magic when its sleeting and snowing. I have been in the both on heavy snow as well as in ice rain and this has kept me warm and dry without fail.
Fit & Comfort
The parka is designed to have a flattering cut but not significantly tailored fit. I like the fact that it is possible to design a warm garment that is not overly bulky. It is also relatively dressier; this is to say that it can be dressed up or dressed down, hence suitable for informal outings as well as formal ones. The coat has an adjustable hood with faux fur trim which is a stylish addition and also protects the face from strong cold winds.
What I would like to say here is that I found the fit true to size, however if thick sweaters are to be layered underneath, going a size up becomes inevitable. Not that the coat is very heavy, which is not a surprise considering the amount of insulation that it has. I can easily move around without feeling like I am carrying excess weight.
Durability & Build Quality
The materials used is of superior quality. The outer fabric is tough with a rugged feel but soft to the skin. The jacket has been worn on a daily basis for several weeks with trips through snow and slush, yet it has not developed any noticeable tape. The zipper works well and is strong however it has not snagged on anything, plus the pockets are quite roomy and positioned nicely for warm hands or small items when required.
Features
DryVent™ waterproof fabric: One such feature that is beneficial especially when in wet snow or sleet. The coat does a good job in keeping water out.
Adjustable cuffs and waist: This feature makes it user friendly as the waist can be adjusted to give a tighter fit or be relaxed if there are many layers underneath.
Faux Fur Trim On The Hood Removable: The faux fur, while enhancing the elegance of the coat, can be detachable for those who wish to have a simpler appearance.
Overall pockets: These while having pockets as well, are fleece lined so that your hands don’t get cold. There are pockets on the inside of the jacket too for carrying valuable items.
Minor Critiques
There are very few things to hate about this coat, however I would have preferred a slightly deeper hood. I often find myself yanking it forward on days where there are blizzards or strong wind. Moreover, while the coat is amazing for extremely low temperatures, it might be a little too hot for the moderate winter days.
Conclusion
The North Face Arctic Insulated Parka, for instance, is a great purchase which gets all the boxes ticked in terms of being stylish, warm and well crafted. It is perfect for everyone who lives in a chilly environment or they need a good quality winter coat to withstand harsher conditions. Yes, it may be a little pricey, but the aesthetics, practicality, and effectiveness of the winter coat are truly worth every penny of the purchase price. I recommend it extremely!
